My Altpick membership is up in a few days. I've only had a handful of people who have gone to my site from Altpick all year. I've had quite a few go to my site via Linkedin and AgencyScoop. I am much more aggressive with Linkedin and AS since there are ways of connecting with people there. On Altpick, how do you connect with art directors/buyers. It seems much more passive. You put images and info up, and hope for the best. I know if you make an announcement, you wind up being on the opening page for a day or two, but unfortunately there's not much for me to announce these days. How do you maximize your being on Altpick?

I'm assuming that you didn't get any jobs from them?
I had an Altpick account several years back - for just 1 year. There were people (ADs, other photographers, I don't know who) clicking through to my website but I never got a request for an estimate or bid. I didn't renew.

I've gotten one client, several jobs, from altpick. It's paid for itself ten fold.

I try and update every once in a while and make announcements when appropriate.

It should just be a part of an overall marketing program, and as far as online source books go, it's so inexpensive, it's hard to not use it.

The key is to update regularly and to have news to send them about projects you've done recently.

They also just started a new feature where clients can give them a request and Altpick will send out all the artists they feel fit the request. It's a little more push that might get you more attention.

I know this is an old discussion but I wanted any updated info - good, bad, indifferent - anyone's feelings/interactions - regarding Altpick. I ask because joining only costs $99 now.

Thanks for any responses.

I really like altpick. They are great about getting any news out fast and are really personable.

Shane already said "personable" in which I agree and is probably the only reason that I renewed. Any contact that I've received thus far have been photography assistants and make up artists offering their services.

I didn't renew, but I have to agree with "personable". I dealt with Maria, and she was great.

The odd think is that conventional thinking would be that since it's so cheap it attracts amateurs. However, the profiles I've seen are pretty damn good, and it's not really inundated like you'd think it would be.

My only beef is that every time you update your portfolio you make it to the main page...so there are a few ass hats that abuse the system and "update" their profile a few times a day to stay on the main page.

My guess is, the upper-tier photographers (like Michael Grecco) put their name/website on every service, while the rest of us - not-so-upper-tier - pick and choose.
