It very much seems like the future, not the only one but something important.
I would not like to only have a portfolio on an iPad, but as it is light(ish) it is no hassle traveling with one as well.
Some ADs like them, some don't. I wouldn't want to limit my audience by not having one. Will it replace print ? I really hope not.

I have one and sort of love it. Very good for some things but not a replacement to a laptop. Great for viewing media, rubbish for working.

The production side of things means I need to be upto speed with the latest tech and how it can be used.
