Although this made me laugh... a lot, it's also kinda relevant to what we do or don't do with our promotional materials as photographers. Check it out. :-)

OMG that's F'ing hilarious! Proof that (sometimes) it pays to be an egotistical meglomaniac.

I once got a demo business card from this company that had these strange laser machines. The card was metal with laser etching like a B/W photo on it. You could probably dig up your garden with the card. That doesn't make it great, though I do still have it ... somewhere.

For a minute there I thought I was back in the 80's watching another business guru. Althought I do use a photo of myself on my own card.
But my cards do fit in my wallet along with my ego.

I have a basic business card. I usually hand it out so someone has my email address.

Just to clarify, I wasn't really talking about traditional business cards when I made my statement about this relating to us... Just the fact that as photographers, we're always looking for a way to make our promotional materials stand out from the crowd.

Well although he did grate on my nerves he has a very valid point. People see my cards and everyone wants one. It has to be a high standard because I get a cheap business card it usually just ends in the Business Card dispenser also known as a Garbage can. Anything the affects peoples perception of me has to be to a certain standard as I am selling very expensive fine art. If I gave out cheap cards I really doubt anyone would take me seriously. I am not sure what type of photography everyone does but my image is as important as my photos.

I think that there are something true in his words , but I guess it all depends what type of business/photography you are doing - do you pursue high end fashion work or low end portrait for example

Of course I do not think that you should go over board and spend a lot on that moreover , we are photographers and better spend money on your portfolio rather than bis.card

One of the things I've noticed is that photographers think they are designers, but we are not. We don't expect designers to make good photographers and it applies the other way too. I've seen a lot of home made bad photographers business cards.

If you want to be taken seriously get a designer to create your logo, letterhead and business card.
