I have wondered that myself. Two thoughts...
-When I hike and shoot in the desert, I often find myself exploring all over the place, and the more remote, the better. While I read maps pretty well, it might be nice to open a file two years later and say, "I want to be there for sunrise instead of sunset this time. Now, where was it, exactly?" No prob if you have a GPS tag on it.
-I shoot news for a living, and it might be helpful in situations like writing a cutline: "The crash occurred 4.7 miles south of Fitztown on US 377." I can also see legit legal needs for data of this type. _________________ http://richardbarron.net/ |

There was a local wedding photographer that on his website stated he could provide image files of the wedding with GPS coordinates included. You have to wonder how many of his clients actually took him up on the offer. If you shoot alot of different geographic locations it might be useful to recall where you were at a given time.
Doesn't it seem that photographers have become fixated on features and gadgets and can't wait for the latest and greatest upgrade a manufacturer has to offer. _________________ Mark Farrell |

I thought about geotagging my stuff but in the end I don't think it is worth it. Almost all my images are keyworded and if I ever really need to get back to a specific location I take an over all shot of the location with my iPhone which does geotag images. I put the iPhone image in the shoot collection in Lightroom so if I ever need the info its there.
I'm also not sure how much of some of my landscape locations I want to share with the general public. _________________ r.c. durston

Location scouting. My notes aren't always organized and my recall isn't always accurate. _________________ _Blaze Hall

GPS is indeed a privacy issue. It can disclose your home address and break your anonymity, if you took photos at your home and published it. This can be avoided if you remove exif before publishing the photo. |
