I've been reading some older posts about Blurb and some other books, but most are older posts. Craig Brewer had a nice topic going and seemed to like the quality that Blurb was finally giving him on the smaller books, but these posts were years old. Anyone with more recent results?

I've ordered from MyPublisher.com several times thus far (8.5x5.5 & 15x11) and have been fairly pleased with the results. The smaller books are ok. Being black, the back cover is a finger print magnet and in high contrast images, I've had to fight the whites to not get blown out. Over all though, I've gotten a feel for file prep and they've been well received.

Their 15x11s are slick: Beautiful quality. I just got it Saturday so I have only tested it on people who have seen the smaller books and they seem to linger on the shots. It shows great detail smoothly. I don't like that you can't print directly on the cover option for that size but there jacket cover is only $2 for replacement and looks great. I tore the plastic shipping sleeve immediately trying to remove the book so I'm going to look for another carrying/protection option for it.

I have a 12x12 from Winkflash.com on its way. The have a 60% off sale going on until 07/23 if I'm correct. I haven't tried them before but the cost was worth the risk. I'll probably try A&I after I do some new promo shots.

I recently got a new Mac, and thought I'd check out printing books using the latest iPhoto. I posted this on the ASMPproAdvice, and had one photographer say he used the iPhoto app. for printing his "leave behinds" iPhoto does seem super easy to use.

Where do people get all those custom promos done? Especially those really cool ones that come in wood or custom packaging?

I just want a simple four or six page small booklet for leave behinds. None of the bigger names print that small.

Shane:

Your designer should know where to get the piece printed. This is one of the reasons to use a designer--they know the printers.

If you are doing DIY, try contacting a local AIGA member for suggestions.

Btw, you know I disapprove of doing DIY promos, right?

winkflash: not good. almost looks like halftones compared to mypublisher.

I'm going to drop by A&I today if I have the time and look at a sample. yesterday, I spoke to a former employee of theirs who wasn't big on them anymore. WHCC and visionart might be next on the agenda.

*Went to A&I and wasn't impressed by the samples at all. Dots dots dots.
