So I recently won Best In Show in the Dallas Chapter of the ASMP's 30th anniversary show, which was judged by some great judges in the local industry. As a result, I was invited by 3 of them to come in and show my book over the next two weeks. One is a local magazine, one a medium/small sized agency and the last a very large national agency.

Any last minute advice?

What did you show ?

Is it a good cross section of your work that would be appropriate for each of the prospective clients ? It must be to some degree, they were the judges.

The top image is the one that won best in show. The other two were also accepted into the show...which only had thirty open slots total. So I must be doing something they like.

Dress nice and be personable. :-) Know what it is about your work that makes it special to you. Don't bullshit... too much.

I love those top two images but I can't understand how they relate to the third (in style or substance). My advice to you would be to make sure the same disconnect doesn't exist in your portfolio.

I agree with you Jlafferty. What people like or see is beyond me...however I can tell you that the dog picture is always commented on favorably in my port. In fact, in working with certain photo consultants, I was convinced to leave it in. And so far people respond to it.

In the competition they were submitted separately, not as a series, and anonymous to the judges. So maybe there is no connection in that sense.

It's against the law to use the word "port" in here when referring to a portfolio. :-)
