Here's a shot I recently did for Nissan at the Port of Miami, the tug showed up right on time!

After about a week and a half of emails, phone calls and meetings (City of Miami, Port of Miami, Miami Dade PD, Port PD, Homeland Security, Miami Film Dept) that my location manager attended we had a day of fun at the port. We pretty much could go where we wanted as long as we stayed a certain distance form any working ship or equipment. It was about 50x easier to deal with than the Port of LA or Long Beach! Shot on Sunday of MLK weekend so it was slower than usual.
This is one of the best shots of the day. It's a combo of a few shots. The truck and the gantry was one, I widened the image by adding more water and a different boat than the one that was there. The sky was bleccchy grey so I spiced it up a little. The tugboat was serendipity. I did various post precessing techniques to make it grittier...
Just a couple low power pops from a Hensel strobe helped out the front of the truck...
It was one of those days when you think "this photography thing is pretty interesting, I'm getting to see stuff not everyone get the chance to see..."
What surprised me was how fast these boats get moving once they decide to go. When you are 30 feet away from them it's like a city block moving past you...you can feel the breeze. pretty cool. |

Sounds like fun... I get to have days where I say that on occasion too. Even though I hate shooting at manufacturing plants, it's often cool to see how stuff is made, up close. Plastic bags was actually one of the coolest, believe it or not. :-) _________________ Brooks Ayola
