At least I've got a few....

Today's stupid client story

Client has been talking about having some panoramic images of a golf course made for their new office (they are in a golf related business)

So, they WAIT TILL NOVEMBER to want the images shot!

What ?

The greens aren't looking their best in Illinois in November ?

Come on out here to Southern California and pick the course. The rains have just started and it's nice and green. Rolling Eyes

This isn't a stupid client post but a stupid billboard company post.
I shot a beautiful landscape for a client, just beautiful. They were looking to make it into a 240 sheet billboard to really show off the landscape and grandeur. I'm prepared to drive an hour to photograph my finished billboard, set up on location outside an airport when one of my contacts at the agency tells me to hold off.
He says, "the billboard people ended up taking the landscape and mounting it not on a normal 240 sheet board but on a 3 up rotating one."
Now that was a waste of money.

Wow, that would have been huge - as 48 Sheet is a Standard billboard size (120" x 240") - and 96 Sheet is double that (120" x 480"), which is suitable for wide format ads like this one...

.. of ours from a few years ago.

So 240 Sheet would be like 3 times as long as this !!

Is that right - and if so, what was the file size ?

Here is the finished billboard. Its hard to tell scale since it is set back from the road probably another 30 or 40 feet from the car but it is huge.

causeway

As far as file size I had it up to 720mm x 3275mm and the client only asked for, wait are you sitting for this, 254mm x 2635mm x 300dpi. I know it seems small but all the production guys I talked to insisted that it only needs to be 10% of the final value. And I understand about the printing vs. viewing distance etc but it still seems so small. You can't really tell from the image but everyone was happy and they said it was sharp.

Wow - that is huge and very impressive.

Hope you got paid accordingly - as their client is clearly spending a huge amount of money here, on the back of what you are providing them with Smile
