I dropped by on this forum looking for introductions but found none so I thought of creating a thread for it.
Hey! I'm Harshit (the T is pronounced like the French do) from India. I'm a pro Web App Developer and a n00b hobby photographer (desperate to get a DSLR [D70] ). I mostly shoot SP's and still life and some urban and nature.
This place, in my opinion is a great place for peolpe like me who know nothing about the business of photography to learn and maybe make a few bucks (for that oh-so-cool DSLR).
Great work Brooks! Now I can bug you for tips _________________ PG n00b, handle with care!

Good idea Harshit! Glad you told us about the "T" so we won't use the english pronunciation of your name. :-)
My name is Brooks Ayola. I'm an advertising and editorial photographer in Chatsworth, California USA (near Los Angeles). Some say Chatsworth is the porn capitol of the world. I don't know if that's true, but lets just say that the industrial are where my studio is has some sort of adult industry player in every other building. If you drive down the street or wander through the courtyards on a Sunday, you just might stumble across a shoot. :-)
My biggest client is JBL Pro Audio, but I've been working with a consultant so I can get more work shooting portraits, which is my first love. Until then, I'll stick to shooting products and a lot of beauty industry stuff. It pays the bills... Well, most months anyway. _________________ Brooks Ayola

Being a commercial photog in a smallish city in Canada, can I get more isolated? Thank goodness for the internet to connect us all in the common goal of making our business work.
Now that PDN is up again are you gonna stick with this Brook? |

Well, I think the format here is much better than the PDN business forum because we can be more organized, and if I can get some of you to contribute to the links in each category, this could be a great resource for links too. _________________ Brooks Ayola

You could add www.ProPhotoForums.com to your PDN signature. With 1000+ posts I don't think anyone would object and it isn't spam. Definition of Spam: Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail. _________________ -----------------------------------

Hi, I'm Bazil... You might remember me from such photography message boards as Skate Perception, Fred Miranda Photography and THE SKATE PRESS!
Ahem, yeah... So I saw that you started a new forum, so I joined up. Funny, although I'm signed up to those skateboard photo/video forums, I don't actually skate, nor do I shoot skate photos. Oh well.
That's my introduction... Oh, what I shoot:
Editorial
Advertising
Promotional
Record Covers
blah blah blah.
I shoot pretty much exclusively in the music industry at the moment, but want to branch out into anything that involves shooting pictures of PEOPLE! I guess that comes from my filmmaking background... Oh, here's a bit of shameless self-promotion:
Buy my film (directed by me), from Virgin Megastores:
http://www.virginmegastores.co.uk/invt/675899
Rather pricey... Err, here's a link to the same title at Play.com:
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=R2&title=556256
Fantastic... Oh, here's my photography portfolio:
www.sccstreetluge.co.uk/portfolio
I've been a bit slack on adding tearsheets, but I will do soon.
Thanks
Andrew. _________________ http://www.sccstreetluge.co.uk/portfolio |

Hi... thought I'd introduce myself.
I am a former professional photographer. I left photography back in 95 to jump on that wonderful new thing called the internet. I am now a graphic/web designer. I'm starting to try to get back into photography... hopefully at least semi-professionally. What does that mean? I'm looking to start doing some freelance work... I'd like to start a mobile portrait studio thing. Maybe do some weddings.

I'm a seriously amateur (yes, I know how that sounds) photographer/hobbyist who's learned a lot from 'lurking' at PDN and other boards. I've been lucky enough to have images appear in two CD booklets, but that's the highlight so far.
Even though PDN seems to be up and running, I think having an additional forum is a plus. Since, so far, Brooks is paying the rent out of his pocket, other sites can't complain that PPF is stealing ad $$..
Anyway, thanks, Brooks, for steppin up to the plate so quickly. Good luck.
JK

hello all,
just thought i'd introduce myself...i'm a photographer from ontario, canada. although right now i'm focusing on the artistic side of photography (having work in galleries etc)...thats mainly because i dont really know how to go about jumping in with both feet and making photography my career.
i shoot both digital and film...using film way more than digital. i still print all my work by hand, and i'm extremely interested in alternative processes. i do alot of polaroid work at this moment in time. i also enjoy bookbinding and i was lucky enough to have one of my hand-bound portfolios featured in a canadian photography magazine.
if you want to check out some of my work, it's here:

take care,
a. |

My name is Suzanne Burkey and I'm a product photographer for a smallish company. I handle all their print and web images and they keep me very busy.
I shoot some on the side, mostly jewlery and other still life. I'm branching out into food photography a bit, I'll try anything to keep the creative juices going since most of my 9-5 stuff needs to be semi-formulaic. I'd love to take on more freelance but I also value my precious free time away from the camera.
I've done one wedding, which I swore I'd never do (I assisted at weddings for 4+ years and it was pure torture). But I'm please with what I managed to accomplish and I got a couple nice photos for my portfolio. Most of all, the bride and groom seem happy.
Yeah, that is about it. |

My name is Jason Gutierrez, I'm a commercial producer in Los Angeles. Photography has unfortunately taken up more of the hobby role, but that is something I still hope to change. I shoot mainly film, simply for the love of it. |

Hi All:
My name's Frank Hudec, and I'm a photographer with the Canadian Forces. Since I've already got a bio on our website, you can read all about me here, and here too.
I really enjoy the new site - it's a nice change of pace from the PDN Biz forum (and it works too)! Thanks to everyone involved for getting it up-and-running.
Much appreciated!

Good Day to you all,
My name is Don Pye. I am located just outside Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Moved out of the city 5 years ago (lifestyle choice) to a beautiful 80 year old house in a small village. (We really didn't enjoy the drug trade in the neighbourhood) I'm a hardened city person and didn't know for sure if it was the right thing or not. We're not going back!!.
My photographic experince goes back to the early 80's. In studio commercial work (assisting of course). Been on my own since about '89. Just in time for a recession. Yes, bloody wonderful timing. Moved studio to home studio/office near 4 years ago. Haven't shot film for near a year and a half. Getting more into stock photography as we speak. "Bottom of the learning curve" I think the saying goes. The moment I think I have a handle on things "It changes again!!!!"
Even after all these years, I am still a work in progress. I'm not sure there is a destination???
Hey IANMCC, what city are you located in? If you don't mind me asking.
Thanks

I am Tom McKenzie, I just moved into my first space here, just north of Detroit, a couple of weekends ago, small, but functionable. Looking forward to the big adventure that is ahead.
This is pretty cool Brooks.
