Hey everybody,
I'm gabe and I found this through being a "friend" of Brooks on Flickr. I live in Indianapolis, IN. I work full time as a paramedic, but my love is photography. I shoot with a rebel xt. As of late I have become obsessed with portraits, so I bought a sekonic L-358 and a 50mm f1.4 (digital x1.6) and am having a ball. I've actually even made a few bucks. Thought being able to connect with some other photographers, especially pros, would be a great idea. Well, thats it for now I guess.

I'm Marc. Went to photo school from 93-95.

I sure hope this place gets some traction. There's a big need for a place like this.

Marc

My name is Tim, but you can call me Timo (I just like to make people type an extra vowel when addressing me!). I am new on the forum and thought I should introduce meself. I am a glorified photo assistant from Minneapolis, MN. I also work in Los Angeles when I am sick of the snow here in the Midwest. I met Brooks last summer and have worked with some of his colleagues. They are all great guys out there in the Valley... yah, fer sure!

I hope to make a contribution here at the Pro Photo Forums while continuing my photographic adventure. I have always aspired to remain teachable, and I find that forums like this are an excellent way to maintain that attitude, while both feeding and keeping my ego in check!

Right now, I am at a coffee shop on Lake Street, in Uptown (Minneapolis). There is a young man, writing longhand, at a table across the room from me. I have been observing his writing process and notice that he has a tendancy to twitch as he thinks and develops his thoughts and ideas in his head, then, he writes it on paper. There is great window light illuminating him and, if it weren't for his tame appearance and disposition, less his twitching, I would like to take his portrait.

Question of the day: Has anyone ever seen a photographer develop writer's twitch?

Timo

I'm currently a computer programmer who aspires to make a living in photography. Currently exploring portrait photography, children's in particular. Hope to get some business advice and inspiration here.

I know (online, at least) Brooks from the photoblogging world and he was actually kind enough to respond to a lengthy interview I did a while back for a website I tried to start (it's now just a local photog forum). Regardless of the visibility of the interview, I learned a lot from it and appreciate all the time he put into it. Thanks, Brooks.

Well I guess I wasn't too smart in not getting hold of www.prophotoforums.com when I got my www.prophotoforum.com going. Oh well - you can't win them all.

Just noticed this forum when I did one of my typical searches to see my placement in directories. So thought I'd stop by and check in. Brooks looks to be a very good photographer and that will make it appealing for me to stop in once in a while to see what tips I can pick up.

I am from Ontario Canada - don't do a whole lot of commercial work - but have made a specialty out of my Love Story Sessions and have even become known by a few photographers who identify the Love Story with my work. I really do love working with people as opposed to inanimate objects.

Anyway - all the best with the forum - I know its a big responsibility and takes some dedication to keep on top of it - especially as it grows. My second (and current) incarnation of ProPhotoForum was as a result of Zugas server crash in Feb of 2005 and many photographers being left stranded - - - it appears to me that the motivation for this forum may have to do with PDN from earlier posts - is that so?

Wow! That's pretty funny. I actually never tried prophotoforum.com without the "s" when I was looking for a quick domain name for these forums. I don't know why. I think if I would have tried that one and seen it was taken, I would have looked for something different. Oh well, what's done is done. :-) Welcome Robert!

There seems to be room for both of us as we, for the most part, take on different subject matter.

Yes, the original intent was to keep business topics going when PDN didn't seem to know or care that the business side of their forum was broken. By the time they figured it out, I was up and going over here.

Introduction - I was studio manager at packshot space factory dot co dot uk for almost six years, and decided that it was time to take the next step... So, along with my business partner, http://www.pixeleyesphotography.co.ukwas born.

We're based in the east end of London, (not quite a lifestyle choice), specialising in editorial and advertising still life. We're not quite ready to launch our purple bovine, so are building up the bread and butter, to make the leap.

Often lurking, always looking, and forever learning.

Hi everyone, My name is Paul W Gillespie and I am photojournalist in Annapolis, MD. I go by pwgphoto on a lot of boards and I am glad that Brooks started this one. The mess at RG has left a bad taste in my mouth and this seems to be great start to a new site for us. I am a regular at Sportsshooter and RG was usually my second stop. I will now delete the RG bookmark and replace it with Pro Photo Forums.

Good luck on the new venture and I hope we can get it to be as large and helpful as the old RG site was many moons ago.

Hello guys!

Have always enjoyed reading/viewing the business side of photography in various forums, and most certainly hope that this site here takes off like a rocket! Looking good so far!!

Although I shoot mostly abstract type images in nature and it does not seem to be very much here with nature photographers, there is still plenty here that can benefit me in the long run.

Have been a photographer for nearly 25 years, and still there is plenty to learn.

Keep up the good work guys.
Looks great!!

Hey all... Looking for a place to roost after the RG switch. Stumbled across this one. Hopefully its a place I'll visit often. My name is Stephen Faust, a commercial photographer out of the Boston area. I shoot mainly corporate work, product shots, and client direct. I also have a few national magazines that I shoot for about 3 or 4 times a month.

My passion is lighting, and I love to explore all sorts of lighting styles. Most of my work that appears to be available or natural light is actually lit to appear that way. I'm 99% digital, own and operate a studio, with a split of 60% studio and 40% location work.

Looking forward to making connections, talking industry and business.

I'm another old RG user and came across this through Brooks signture on PDN. I'm an infrequent lurker and poster there.
I'm based in Galway in the west of Ireland and split my time between sound engineer and photographer. I have a studio in the Town Hall Theatre here, but my lease is up soon and I'm renovating the place I store sound equipment to use as a studio. I shoot landscapes, people and a small amount of still life.
My stuff has been used in tourist brochures, magazines, business promotion, CD covers, etc. etc. I'm trying to do more photo stuff as the constant late nights doing sound has worn me down.
Brooks shoots for JBL. Did you know Brooks that JBL stands for Junk, But Loud? Just kidding. I use JBL in one of my regular venues. It doesn't suck too much.

Hello Everyone,

My name is Gerard Kenny from Dublin, Ireland and I am a serious-amateur photographer who would like to turn professional at some point in the next 1-2 years. I photograph people, places, animals, just about anything really and am still learning all the time.

Hi Folks,
I am a new member. Discovered this Forum surfing PDN.
Based in Switzerland, I am working in Portrait, Advertising and Fashion Photography covering Europe (especially Switzerland, Germany) and also the US (NYC, LA)
Still working with films and polaroids from 135 up to 4x5 through 6x9 with all what means creativity : from Canon EOS 3 to Pinhole, through Holga and Fuji GSW 690 III. But honestly, I love my old Canon AE with it's 50/1.2.
Beginning 2006, I discovered digital (Canon, Apple, Photoshop) but I am using it only when clients ask for it.
As a lot of Europeans, we follow closely what you do in the US : You are very well organised (ASMP, APA etc...) and open minded.
We are fighting the same problems as you do and your work helps us a lot. With "we" I am speaking about me and som fellow European collegues.
I hope I can bring some information and help over to you as you already did by giving me the opportunity tho follow the various Forums.
Fell free to contact me.
Cheers.

Thanks Brook for the welcome. Always a plaesure to know somebedy is answering at the other side of the world.
In my opinion we can do a lot for our passion : Photography and the business behind it, by sharing our point of views and knowledge, also on an international level.
Look at the computer guys, they do it since very long and out comes great stuff like the open source stuff (f.e. Mozilla Firefox etc....) I am sure the futur of photography is here and our business will evolve in the right way
I don't like the good old days, I prefer the great Future !

Aloha! I do architectural photography here in Hawaii for a living and underwater, event (bike, swim and run races), and landscape photography for fun.

I do not regularly visit any forums, but check them out when I am trying something new. I love learning from your experiences.

Hey Don, Great pictures. I love the underwater pictures. The light is amazing. Did you do them with a good old Nikonos, perhaps the Nikonos RS? How about the panorama ? View Camera or Hasselblad XPan?

Hello!

I'm Jorge and currently live in Miami. I've been a photographer for 3 years now, and while I'm content with my work to date, I'm still looking to improve. I love brook's studio work so I plan on sticking around and learning as much as I can.

Canon shooter, only digital. Wouldn't know how to develop film even if you put all the materials in front of me, and not ashamed to admit it. Cool
