So I have 5 days or so in LA with e-string at the end of the month, and I really don't know the area, so does anyone know of any good (and safe) outdoor locations that'll work for editorial/catalogue type stories? (So I can go and do something constructive while she's on shoots).

E-string's my wife. Editorial stories means funky interesting locations - like power stations, run down amusement parks, the obligatory derelict warehouse etc.

Ha! Ed.. I might be one of the few people here who know you or Erin. :-) Anyway, I don't know either... I think it's a better question for Model Mayhem. Not that someone won't chime in with some good info.

Some of the plants in Hermosa and El Segundo are okay but hard to get into. Backside of LAX for that vacant landscape look. Check to see if Circus Vargas is playing anywhere nearby.
I will think some more about it.

Most interesting things have big fences around them and over zealous security, and many don't want you shooting there because they have a location manager for photos and film. interesting (old maybe non working) Power plant west of Pasadena north of the 210, and a dam / spillway east of there. Hansen Dam recreation area is cool. In Carson off the 405 is a giant refinery with a huge American flag on it, I have run into their security people there, if you aren't on their property ignore them (politely) but they will threaten to call the LASD.

The 'old' downtown is interesting, on weekends it's crazy crowded with families shopping and there usually 3 or 4 photo or film shoots going on too. Pretty safe untill you get too far east of the warehouse area by the LA River, then t gets a little sketchy.

guerilla cliché: Downtown's Red Cat exterior. Downtown's 3rd Street tunnel

I have a dilapidated warehouse but safety is relative. To my knowledge, I'm not dead yet.

Thanks for all the tips, guys.

Brooks, I try to avoid asking people stuff on MM because I've had enough of smacking my damn forehead in response to the inordinate amount of utterly nonsensical replies I get there Sad
